Bridge Drama is an amateur drama group based in Castlebridge, Co. Wexford town.

Our main aim is to present productions of the highest quality and entertainment value, while having the maximum amount of fun!! Our group is made up of members from all over Wexford and beyond and is open to all with an interest in the stage or behind the scenes.

Our year begins in late August with the committee remaining active until late June. In October/November we produce our first 3 act play which is performed in Wexford's Arts Centre as part of the Fringe Events for the Wexford Festival Opera.

In January/February we perform our second 3 act play. We enter this production into the Amateur Drama Council of Ireland drama circuit. We travel and perform in, up to eight festivals around the country with the ultimate goal of winning a coveted place in the All-Ireland Finals held in Athlone in May.  We were thrilled to win the RTE Amateur Drama Council All-Ireland title in May 2016 with our production of 'Lost in Yonkers,' by Neil Simon.

Bridge Drama love to have a good time so our social calendar is as full as our rehearsal/performance schedule.

We enjoy our 'beginning of year' night out, our Christmas party, our festival club sessions and our 'end of year do,' to name but a few!

Brief History

The Bridge Drama was founded in February 1998 by a group of people with a passion for drama and an interest in all things theatrical. It was set up initially with the intention of performing an annual production in Wexford Arts Centre. The founding members were: Seamus Murphy, Mairéad Ryan, Kieron Ruttledge, Conor Breen, Yvonne Murphy, Marie Kavanagh, Anne McClean and Breda Ryan. In 2002, the group entered onto the amateur drama circuit in the confined section.

The group first qualified for their first All-Ireland Final in Warrenpoint in 2004 with “The Cripple of Inishmaan”. In 2005, they staged two productions and achieved a place in their second All-Ireland final with “Lovers at Versailles”. This took them all the way to Siamsa Tíre in Tralee.
In 2006, Bridge Drama made it to their third All-Ireland – this time in Claregalway with “Memory of Water”. This won them their first All-Ireland award for Best Actress (Mairéad Ryan). 2008 brought Bridge Drama to the All-Ireland Finals in Strabane with “I Do Not Like Thee, Dr. Fell”. In 2009, their production of “Same Old Moon” succeeded in winning them the title of All-Ireland Confined Champions in Ballyduff.

The group picked up awards for: Best Play, Best Producer (Susan Somers), Best Lighting (Pat Whelan) and Best Actress (Mairéad Ryan). 2010 brought a new challenge as the group began to compete in the Open Section with “Blithe Spirit”. The following year saw the group expanding with their largest ever cast presenting “Dark of the Moon”. In 2012 we went even darker with Marina Carr's Portia Coughlan. 2013 was a successful year, with Ray Cooney's Out of Order and, with 4 wins on the open circuit, our first time at the All Ireand finals in Athlone, where Pat Whelan won the Best Director award. 2014 we traveled the country with Big Maggie and in 2015 we enjoyed performing Pygmalion.

Our proudest achievement to date is winning the RTE All-Ireland Amateur Drama Council of Ireland and the Ulster Championship Titles in May 2016 with our production of 'Lost in Yonkers,' by Neil Simon. Pat Whelan also won his second 'Best Director' title.
